1 What is infrared light? Infrared light is invisible light with a longer wavelength than that of visible light. In comparison with ultraviolet light and visible light, infrared light has a high transmittance due to its very small scattering rate and penetrates liquid and ink. In addition, as its wavelength range is limited unlike halogen, light-sensitive workpieces are not affected by it. Due to use of InGaAs camera that has a high sensitivity in the wavelength range of 900 to 1700 nm, the IR-1200 series/IR-1450 series can handle workpieces that cannot be inspected by means of visible light illumination. Ultraviolet light Visible light Infrared light 100 80 60 40 20 0 300 350 400 450 500 550 600 650 700 750 800 850 900 950 1000 1050 1100 1150 1200 1250 1300 1350 1400 1450 1500 1550 1600 Wavelength [nm] Offers products in this wavelength range! 2 Imaging example 1: non-penetration through liquid Water absorbs light with a 1,450 nm wavelength and appears black. The 850 nm and visible light penetrates it. Dark brown bottles IHM-108/114W IFD-200/200IR-850 IDBA-C50/50IR-1450S-C1 (left: vegetable oil, right: water) (visible light) (850nm) (1450nm) Body: borosilicate glass Cap: PP 3 Imaging example 2: non-penetration through liquid While 850 nm infrared light penetrates the bottle, visible light and 1,450 nm infrared light do not. Soy sauce IHM-108/114W IFD-200/200IR-850 IDBA-C50/50IR-1450S-C1 Bottle part: PET (visible light) (850nm) (1450nm) Relative emission intensity [%]

4 Imaging example 3: penetration through bottle container As visible light and 850 nm infrared light do not penetrate the bottle, it is not possible to judge the presence of content. As 1,450 nm infrared light penetrates the bottle and does not penetrate the content (liquid), it is easy to judge the pres- ence and amount of the content. Liquid hand soap IHM-108/114W IFD-200/200IR-850 IDBA-C50/50IR-1450S-C1 Bottle: PE (visible light) (850nm) (1450nm) 5 Imaging example 4: penetration through cover 1,450 nm infrared light can penetrate polyvinyl chloride and it is possible to visualize the wire inside. 850 nm infrared light and visible light cannot penetrate polyvinyl and it is not possible to visualize the wire inside. Wire lock Core material: steel Protection resin: polyvinyl chloride IHM-108/114W IFD-200/200IR-850 IDBA-C50/50IR-1450S-C1 (visible light) (850nm) (1450nm) 6 Imaging example 5: penetration through package Visible light cannot penetrate the package and it is not possible to judge the presence of its content. 850 nm infrared light penetrates the package, but as penetration is insufficient, it is not possible to clearly view the content. By using 1,450 nm infrared light, it is possible to completely penetrate the package and clearly view the ink cap inside the package. Refilling ink Resin part: PP, PE Ink: alcohol-based oily pigment ink IHM-108/114W IFD-200/200IR-850 IDBA-C50/50IR-1450S-C1 (visible light) (850nm) (1450nm) 7 Imaging example 6: penetration through pen cap Visible light and 850 nm infrared light cannot penetrate the cap and the pen tip is not visible. 1,450 nm infrared light penetrates the cap as well and it is possible to inspect the pen tip. Oily marker Body part: recycled resin Cap: PP IHM-108/114W IFD-200/200IR-850 IDBA-C50/50IR-1450S-C1 (visible light) (850nm) (1450nm)
